Okay, so, I had to set up the internet service for a show at the Atlantic City Convention Center, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience. I figured I’d share my process here, ’cause why not? Maybe it’ll help someone else out there.
Getting Started
First off, I found out that this company called Smart City is the only one that provides internet and telephone services there. So, I knew I had to go through them. They offer both wired and wireless services throughout the building, which is pretty standard.
Contacting Smart City
I got in touch with them, and they were helpful enough. I told them what kind of show we were doing and how many people would be using the internet. They gave me some options based on that information. I opted for a wired connection ’cause I wanted to make sure we had a stable and reliable connection.
Choosing the Right Services
- Wired Internet: This was a must for us. We needed a solid connection for our main operations, like registration and live streaming.
- Wireless Internet: I also got a basic Wi-Fi package for attendees. It’s a nice touch and keeps everyone happy.
Setting Up the Network
The Smart City folks came in a day before the show to set everything up. They ran the cables, set up the routers, and made sure everything was connected properly. It was a pretty smooth process, I gotta say. They were professional and knew what they were doing.
Testing, Testing
Once everything was set up, we did a bunch of tests. We checked the speed, connected multiple devices, and tried to push the network to its limits. We wanted to make sure it could handle the load during the show. Everything worked great, so that was a relief.
Show Time
During the show, everything went off without a hitch. The internet was fast and stable. We had no complaints from attendees about the Wi-Fi. All in all, it was a success.
Other Stuff
I also noticed they offer other services too, like internet access stations, copier, fax machine rentals, and even motorized wheelchair rentals. They really have a whole setup there for all sorts of events. And the parking at the convention center is 20 bucks. I noticed the Sheraton Hotel is just 1 mile away from the convention center. These are not related to internet setup, but good to know.
Final Thoughts
In the end, working with Smart City at the Atlantic City Convention Center was a good experience. It wasn’t too complicated, and their team was on top of things. If you ever have to set up internet for an event there, just know that you’ll be dealing with Smart City, and they’ll likely take good care of you. They seem to have a pretty good system in place for managing all sorts of events, big or small.
