So, I got this new Qlink SIM card a while back, and I was all excited to get that sweet 5G speed on my Android phone. But, it was a pain in the neck to figure out.
First, I popped the SIM card into my phone. Easy enough, right? Slid it into the SIM slot, closed it up, and turned the phone on. But then came the tricky part – getting the network settings right.
I poked around in the settings, trying to find where to adjust the APN stuff. After a bit of hunting, I found it under the cellular network settings. There should be an option somewhere called “Access Point Names”. That’s the golden ticket.
Once I was in the APN settings, I had to add a new APN. I tapped on the little plus icon or “Add” button, whatever your phone calls it. Now, here’s where you gotta type in some specific stuff, or it won’t work.
- Name: Qlink
- APN: I put in whatever was written on the little card that came with the SIM
- Proxy: Didn’t touch this, left it blank
- Port: Same here, left it empty
- Username: Nope
- Password: Nada
- Server: Skipped this one too
- MMSC: Left this alone
- MMS Proxy: Didn’t mess with it
- MMS Port: Ignored this
- MCC: This was already filled in, so I didn’t change it
- MNC: Same as MCC, already there
- Authentication Type: Didn’t touch this
- APN Type: This field is a pain in the ass. Put “default, mms, supl”.
- APN Protocol: I chose IPv4/IPv6, because why not both, right?
- APN Roaming Protocol: Set this to IPv4 just to be safe
After I typed all that in, I made sure to save the settings. Then, I went back to the APN list and selected the Qlink one I just made. Finally, I restarted my phone for good measure, and boom! The 5G icon showed up, and I was cruising on those fast internet speeds.
It took a little bit of trial and error, but once I got those APN settings dialed in, it was smooth sailing. Now I can stream and download stuff without any annoying buffering or lag. It’s pretty awesome. The key is to put the correct text in APN Type Field and select the right protocol.
