So, I updated my iPhone to iOS 17 the other day, pretty stoked about the new features and all. Everything seemed cool until I tried using the new Grocery List feature in the Reminders app. It just wouldn’t work right. No matter what I did, it was acting funky.
I tried adding items, you know, the usual stuff like milk, eggs, and bread. The app was supposed to automatically sort them into categories, which sounded super convenient. But it was all over the place. Milk ended up under “Household Items” and bread was somehow in “Dairy, Eggs & Cheese”. It was a mess!
I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, so I spent a good chunk of time messing around with the settings. I checked if the list type was set to “Groceries,” and it was. I even tried creating a new list from scratch, hoping it would fix the issue. No luck. Same wonky behavior.
- Tried to restart the Reminders app.
- Tried to restart my iPhone.
- Deleted and reinstalled the Reminders app.
After a bit of fiddling around, I decided to just restart my phone. I mean, it’s the classic tech support move, right? “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” Surprisingly, that didn’t solve the problem either. The Grocery List was still not working properly.
Then, I thought maybe it was an issue with the app itself, so I deleted the Reminders app and reinstalled it. Still no dice. It was the same issue all over again. It felt like I was going in circles.
Finally, A Solution?
Feeling pretty defeated, I decided to dig deeper into the settings. I stumbled upon an option to change the region format on my phone. I had it set to a custom format, so I switched it back to the default “United States” setting. And guess what? It worked! The Grocery List started sorting items correctly. Milk went under “Dairy, Eggs & Cheese,” bread under “Breads & Cereals,” and so on. Finally!
So, yeah, it turns out that the region format setting was the culprit. Who would have thought? It’s a bit of a weird bug, but at least I found a workaround. If you’re having the same issue with the iOS 17 Grocery List, give this a try. It might just save you a headache. Just remember, sometimes the solution is in the most unexpected place.
