Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with my computer lately, trying to get this old program called Print Shop 23.1 to work on my new Windows 11 setup. It’s been a bit of a journey, let me tell you.
First off, I popped the installation disk into my computer, hoping for the best. But, Windows 11 was like, “Hold up, what’s this?” It didn’t automatically start the installation like it used to back in the day. I had to manually find the setup file on the disk and run it myself. No big deal, just a little extra work.
Once I got the installation going, it seemed like everything was moving along smoothly. The progress bar was inching forward, and I was already dreaming of all the cool designs I was gonna create with Print Shop. But then, bam! The installation stopped halfway through, and I got this weird error message. Something about compatibility issues. Ugh.
So, I did what any reasonable person would do – I started googling. I found some forums where other folks were having similar problems. Apparently, Print Shop 23.1 is pretty old, and it wasn’t really designed to work with Windows 11.
Someone suggested trying to run the program in compatibility mode. You do this by right-clicking on the program’s icon, going to Properties, and then finding the Compatibility tab. There, you can choose to run the program as if it were on an older version of Windows, like Windows 7 or even XP.
- I gave that a shot, but it still didn’t quite work.
- The program would start, but some of the features were all messed up or missing.
- It was frustrating, to say the least.
Next, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program a few times. You know, the classic tech support move. Sometimes it actually works! But not this time. I was still stuck with a half-working Print Shop.
I even went to the developer’s website to see if they had any updates or patches. They did mention that their latest version is compatible with Windows 11, but no specific information on the older version of 23.1, which I need to use due to my old license. That’s always a bummer.
Finally, after hours of tinkering, I stumbled upon a workaround. I found out that you can use the “save as PDF” function in Print Shop 23.1, even if it’s not fully compatible with Windows 11. It’s not perfect, but at least I can save my projects and print them from another program. One post even mentioned that he just installed 23 without issue and printed one of the pre-made pages, I have no idea how he did it, but maybe it was a compatibility setting.
So, yeah, it’s been a bit of a hassle, but I’m slowly figuring things out. I just wish there was a simpler solution, but hey, that’s tech for you! It wouldn’t be fun if it were too easy, right? Just a little bit annoying that I can’t find my serial key. I know I bought this software way back, but where is that key? I may need to contact their customer support. I’ll keep messing around with it and see if I can find any other tricks.
Anyway, just thought I’d share my experience in case anyone else is struggling with the same thing. I wish I had better news, but at least we’re not alone in this retro software adventure!
