Oh man, you won’t believe what I just finished up! I’ve been working on this Android 18 statue, and let me tell you, it turned out amazing.
It all started a few weeks ago when I got this idea to create a figure. I’ve always been a huge fan of Dragon Ball Z, and Android 18 is one of my favorite characters. So, I thought, why not try making my own statue?
First, I looked all over the internet for references. I found tons of images and even some 3D models of Android 18. I studied her design, her pose, and all those little details that make her unique. Then, I started gathering materials. I decided to go with a 1/6 scale, so I made sure to get the right size of the base.
The next step was choosing the right material. I wanted something durable and easy to work with. After some research, I decided on a polymer clay that’s great for sculpting. I also picked up some sculpting tools, like wire loops and fine detail tools, to help me shape the figure.
- I started by creating a wire armature, which is like a skeleton for the statue. It gives the figure its basic shape and support.
- Then, I began adding clay, bit by bit, building up the muscles and the overall form of Android 18. This part took a lot of time and patience.
- The hardest part was probably getting the face right. I spent hours just working on her eyes, nose, and mouth. I really wanted to capture her expression perfectly.
- Once the basic form was done, I started adding the details. I sculpted her hair, her clothes, and all the little wrinkles and folds.
After the sculpting was finished, it was time to bake the clay. I carefully followed the instructions to make sure the figure hardened properly. Once it was cool, I started painting. I used acrylic paints and went layer by layer, starting with the base colors and then adding highlights and shadows. I found some references online that talked about using 3D painting techniques, which really helped bring out the details.
The Final Touches
Finally, I added a clear coat to protect the paint and give it a nice finish. The whole process took me about three weeks, working on it a little bit each day. It was a lot of work, but seeing the finished Android 18 statue made it all worth it. It’s about 21.5 cm tall, and it looks just like her. I’m really proud of how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I learned a ton along the way. I even saw online that some limited edition statues are released in batches of like 360 pieces, which is crazy! But it makes me appreciate the work that goes into each one even more.
Now, I’ve got this awesome Android 18 statue sitting on my shelf. It’s a great reminder of what you can achieve with a little bit of creativity and a lot of hard work. If you’re thinking about trying something like this, I say go for it! It’s a really rewarding experience.
