Okay, so, I’ve been pulling my hair out over this one, and I’m sure some of you can relate. My Android Auto kept disconnecting. I mean, I’d be driving along, jamming to my tunes, and then bam! Silence. No maps, no music, nothing. It was driving me crazy, and frankly, a little dangerous because I’d be fumbling with my phone while driving.
First thing I did was, obviously, check the cable. I mean, that’s the usual culprit, right? I swapped it out with a couple of different ones I had lying around, even a brand new one, but nope, still the same problem. It kept disconnecting at random times. I thought that might be the interference in the 5GHZ spectrum. But it seemed not to be this kind of problem, so I tried to connect to 2.4GHZ spectrum. However, things didn’t get better.
So, cable wasn’t the issue. Next, I messed around with my phone’s settings. I made sure all the permissions for Android Auto were enabled. I even went into the developer options and played around with the USB settings, but still no luck. It got to the point where I was considering doing a full factory reset of my phone. I mean, who knew what I had messed up in there?
- Check the USB cable.
- Try using a different USB port in your car.
- Make sure your phone’s software is up to date.
- Restart your phone and your car’s infotainment system.
Then, I thought, maybe it’s the app itself. So, I went into my phone’s settings, found the Android Auto app, and cleared the cache and data. It’s kind of like giving the app a fresh start. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the app, just to be sure. I was feeling pretty good about this one. I was like, “This has to be it!”
Aha Moment
And guess what? It worked! I mean, it wasn’t perfect at first. It still disconnected a couple of times, but nowhere near as often as before. It was like night and day. I also tried some other apps like AutoMate and AutoZen. They are kind of similar to Android Auto but have some extra features. I did not dive deep into them though. I just drove around for a few days, and it seemed pretty stable. I could finally enjoy my music and use my maps without any interruptions. Man, it was such a relief.
So, if you’re having issues with Android Auto disconnecting, definitely try clearing the app’s cache and data, or even reinstalling it. It might just save you a lot of headaches. Also, do not be obsessed with those so-called “comprehensive” articles. They are just some big words. Trust me, I’ve been there. It’s frustrating, but there’s usually a simple solution. Hope this helps someone out there!
