Okay, so the internet went out today. I noticed it first thing in the morning when I tried to check my email. Nothing. Blank page. Then I tried a few other websites, and still nothing. Yep, the internet was definitely down.
First, I rebooted my router and modem. You know, the old unplug-it-and-plug-it-back-in trick. I waited a few minutes, but that didn’t seem to do anything. The little lights on the modem were blinking, but not in the usual way that means everything is working fine.
Next, I logged in to my Ting account on my phone. Luckily, I still had cell service. I found the “Manage Internet” section and then scrolled all the way to the bottom. I saw a “Manage Your Service” and then clicked on “Troubleshoot Your nbn”.
- Followed the on-screen steps.
- Checked a few things on the router and modem.
- Verified all the cables were plugged in tight.
It looked like there was a known outage in my area. Bummer. Ting’s website said they were working on it, but there was no estimated time for when it would be fixed.
Waiting Game
So, I decided to sign up for outage alerts. That way, I’d get a text message as soon as they had an update. I filled out the form, double-checked my phone number, and hit “Submit.” Now all I could do was wait.
I spent the rest of the day doing things that didn’t require the internet. Read a book, played with the dog. It’s amazing how much you rely on the internet until it’s gone, you know?
Finally, a few hours later, I got the text message. The internet was back! I rushed to my computer, and sure enough, everything was working again. I could finally check my email and get back to work.
It was a frustrating day, but it all worked out in the end. I learned a few things about troubleshooting internet issues, and I’m glad I signed up for those outage alerts. It’s always good to be prepared, right?
