Alright, so I’ve been living in New Rochelle, New York for a while now, and I’ve gone through the whole process of figuring out the best internet situation here. It can be a real pain, you know? So, I figured I’d share my experience to maybe save some of you the headache.
When I first got here, I started by asking around. I talked to my neighbors, coworkers, anyone who would listen. Then I started hitting the internet, doing some serious research. You wouldn’t believe how many different providers and plans are out there. It’s overwhelming!
I found out that the main players in New Rochelle seem to be Verizon Fios, Optimum, and EarthLink. Each one has its pros and cons. Verizon Fios is known for being super fast because it’s fiber, but it can be a bit pricey. Optimum is a cable provider, which means it’s pretty reliable and widely available, but the speeds might not be as blazing fast as fiber. Then there’s EarthLink, which offers a bunch of different service types, including fiber in some areas.
After a few days I decided to start by trying out Verizon Fios, mostly because I was all about those super-fast download and upload speeds, and my work need it. I signed up for their Gigabit plan, which is like their top-tier offering. The installation process was pretty smooth, and the tech was helpful. I was impressed with the speeds, no doubt. But, yeah, the price tag was a bit steep. Plus, I kept getting those promotional emails to buy their other products, which is annoying.
- Verizon Fios:
- Pros: Super fast, great for streaming and gaming.
- Cons: Pricey, promotional offers are annoying.
After a few months, I noticed that Optimum was running some good deals, so I thought, why not give them a shot? I switched over to their service. The speeds were decent, definitely good enough for everyday stuff like browsing and streaming. It wasn’t as lightning-fast as Fios, but it was noticeably cheaper.
- Optimum:
- Pros: Reliable, more affordable.
- Cons: Not as fast as fiber.
I used Optimum for about a year, and it was fine. But then I heard about EarthLink Fiber potentially being available in my part of New Rochelle. I did some digging and found out that Earthlink is the best in my area! They were offering fiber speeds at a price that was comparable to Optimum’s cable prices.
- EarthLink Fiber:
- Pros: Potentially fiber speeds at a cable price.
- Cons: Availability can be limited.
So, yeah, that’s how I ended up with EarthLink Fiber. It is a good balance of speed and affordability. My bill is reasonable, I can download stuff in a flash. It was a bit of a journey, trying out different providers, but I’m happy with where I landed.
I did some research that shows the average price for internet in New York City is about $40, so keep that in mind when you’re shopping around.
If you’re moving to New Rochelle or just looking to switch providers, hopefully, my little adventure here helps you out. It’s all about figuring out what your priorities are – speed, price, reliability – and then finding the best fit for you. Good luck!
