You know what, I saw something the other day, a pool with windows. Yeah, a pool, you swim in it, but it got windows, like the ones in your house, but this one, you can see right through the water, ain’t that something?

They put them windows in the pool, like a fish tank. You swim around, folks can see you, like them goldfish in a bowl. My neighbor’s kid, he told me all about it. I didn’t understand any of that stuff, but he sure was excited. He said they use some fancy stuff, like, acrylic, or something. It’s strong, he said, real strong, so the water don’t bust it. They can make big windows with it, that acrylic, not like the glass we use, easy to break.

He was going on and on, my head was spinning. But I guess it’s good stuff. He said you can see real clear through it, not blurry like when you look through a dirty glass. So, if you’re swimming, you can see everyone outside, and they can see you. Kinda like being on stage, I reckon. Not for me, no sir, I like my privacy, even when I’m taking a dip. But, my neighbor’s kid said it costs a lot of money. Big, fancy pools, they use that, he said. If you want it to last forever, that’s what you use, I guess.

I remember old Mr. Johnson’s pool, always had cracks, nasty stuff growing in them. This fiberglass, they say, keeps the water clean. Don’t have to worry about that green gunk, algae he called it. Good riddance, I say. Don’t want no green stuff in my pool.

And if you want to build a pool with windows, you better use the strong stuff. Don’t want no leaks. Kid said they use special glass, laminated, he called it. Means it’s like a sandwich, with layers and layers. Keeps the water pressure from busting it. Makes sense, I guess. Water’s heavy, pushing on that glass all the time.

He said this fiberglass is real popular. Lots of folks using it. Probably ’cause it’s so strong. Don’t want your pool falling apart, do you? Especially if you got them fancy windows. Imagine that, window breaking, water gushing out, what a mess! Better to use the good stuff, even if it costs a bit more.

Building a pool, that’s a big deal. My neighbor, she’s thinking about it. Lots of choices. That concrete, or the fiberglass, or even this other stuff, vinyl. But I will say this if you want a pool with windows, that need to be strong. And if you have that window, you can see people in the pool, that is fun. But that need to be safe. You don’t want that window to break. That will be bad. A lot of water will come out. And that will not be fun, that will be big trouble.

She’s been asking everyone about it, driving me crazy. “What do you think, Martha?” she says. “Concrete or fiberglass?” I tell her, “Honey, I don’t know.
