My grandson, he’s always on that computer thing. He told me about this wifi repeater, said it might make the internet faster. Now, I don’t know much about these gadgets, but my internet, it’s slower than a snail climbin’ uphill. So, can a wifi repeater be faster than the router, that box thingy?
That boy, he tried to explain it to me. Said somethin’ about the router sendin’ out signals, like when I yell for the chickens to come eat. And this repeater, it’s like hearin’ my yell and yellin’ it again, louder, so the signal goes further. But will it go faster? That’s what I wanna know.
He said sometimes, this wifi repeater, it can make things slower. Like when you got too many folks talkin’ at once, nobody can hear nothin’. He said if the repeater is gettin’ 600, somethin’ called megabits, then the things connected to it only get 300. Half! That don’t sound too good to me.
But then he said, the further you are from that router box, the slower the internet gets. Like when I’m out in the back field, I can barely hear the dinner bell. So this wifi repeater, it’s like puttin’ another bell closer, so you hear it better. And if you hear it better, maybe it’s faster? He said it “increases each device’s speed.” Sounds fancy, but I think I get it.
- He also mentioned somethin’ called a “mesh router.” Said it’s better than a repeater, but it costs more. More money! I told him we ain’t made of money. This repeater is cheaper, he said just plug it in the wall. Like a nightlight, but for the internet.
- This repeater, it takes the signal from the router and makes it go further, he said. But it don’t make the signal stronger. So if the signal is weak to begin with, it’s like tryin’ to make a weak cup of tea stretch for the whole family. Ain’t gonna work too good.
- He also said where you put that router box makes a difference. Said to put it in the middle of the house. Like puttin’ the scarecrow in the middle of the cornfield. Makes sense, I guess. That way the signal can reach every which way.
So, this wifi repeater, it might help, might not. Depends on how far you are from the router, and how strong that signal is. It’s like, if you got a good strong voice, you can holler across the field. But if you got a weak voice, even yellin’ louder ain’t gonna help much.
I told my grandson, maybe we just need to move that router box. He said that’s a good idea. We tried movin’ it to the middle room, and you know what? The internet did seem a little faster. Like givin’ that old mule a little nudge, he picked up the pace a bit.
So, can a wifi repeater have better internet speed than a router? Well, it sounds like it can help, but it ain’t no miracle worker. It’s like sayin’, can a crutch make you run faster than a healthy leg? Maybe it helps you get around better, but it ain’t gonna make you win no race. It all depend on how bad your internet is to begin with and that signal strength. If your signal is already strong, but not going to far, then maybe a repeater can make your internet faster.
Maybe if your internet is slow as molasses, like when I was tryin’ to see a video of my nephew’s new baby. It could make it a little faster. This repeater thing is like havin’ a helper in the field. But I think if you have a good router that signal is strong, you don’t need a repeater to make it faster.
I told him, if he really wants that internet to be fast, maybe he should spend less time on that computer and more time helpin’ me with the chores! Then he wouldn’t need no wifi repeater to make the internet faster, he’d be too busy to even use it!
