Alright, let’s talk about them video thingies on that Linux thing. You know, the computer stuff. My grandson, he’s always fiddlin’ with it. Says I need a good “video player.” Whatever that is. Sounds fancy, but I reckon it’s just somethin’ for watchin’ them moving pictures.
So, I asked him, “What’s the best one?” He mumbled somethin’ ’bout “VLC.” Said it plays just about anythin’. Sounds good to me. Don’t want no fuss with different kinds of… uh… “codecs” he called ’em. Like I know what a codec is! Just wanna watch my shows, that’s all.
Now, this VLC thing, it’s been around a long time, see? My grandson says it started way back in 2001. That’s a long time for anythin’, let alone a computer program. Must be doin’ somethin’ right if it’s still around. He says it’s “open source” too. Means it’s free, I guess. That’s always a good thing. Don’t like payin’ for stuff if I don’t have to.
VLC is pretty darn good for playin’ all sorts of videos. You got your MP4s, your MKVs, and a whole bunch of other letters I can’t even remember. It plays them DVDs too, and them CDs if you still got them. My grandson showed me, it even plays them little video thingies you take on your phone. Pretty handy, I gotta say.
He says it works on all sorts of computers too. Not just that Linux thing, but them Windows machines and even them fancy Apple ones. So, if you got more than one computer, you can use the same player on all of ’em. Saves you from learnin’ a bunch of different programs, which is good for an old lady like me.
- It plays just about anything
- It’s free
- It works on all sorts of computers
Now, there are other players out there, mind you. My grandson mentioned a few others. Something called “MPV,” and another one called “SMPlayer.” He said they’re good too, but he still likes VLC the best. Says it’s the most reliable. And reliable is important, see? Don’t want somethin’ that’s gonna crash on you all the time.
He also fiddled with somethin’ called “Totem.” Said it comes with that Linux thing already. But he wasn’t too impressed with it. Said it’s okay, but VLC is better. So, I guess I’ll stick with VLC. Seems like the best bet for an old lady who just wants to watch her shows without a fuss.
One thing about VLC, it gets updated a lot. My grandson says they’re always makin’ it better. Fixin’ bugs and addin’ new features. That’s good, I guess. Means they’re keepin’ it up to date. Don’t want no old, buggy software on your computer. That’s what my grandson tells me, anyway.
He showed me how to use it too. It’s pretty easy, even for an old lady like me. Just open the program, click on the video you wanna watch, and there you go. You can even make the picture bigger or smaller, and adjust the sound. Nothin’ too complicated.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a good video player for that Linux thing, or any computer for that matter, I’d say give VLC a try. It’s free, it’s easy to use, and it plays just about anythin’. And that’s good enough for me. Don’t need no fancy bells and whistles, just somethin’ that works.
And you know what else? My grandson says you don’t need no extra “codec packs” or whatever. It just plays the videos right out of the box. That’s a relief, I tell ya. Don’t want no fussin’ with extra software. Just wanna watch my stories and be done with it.
So there you have it. VLC. The best video player for Linux, according to my grandson, and he knows a thing or two about computers. Maybe too much, if you ask me! But hey, at least he can help his old grandma watch her shows.
