Okay, so I’ve been on this quest to find a decent ePub reader for my iPad and iPhone. You know how it is, you just want to chill with a good book, but the struggle is real when you can’t find an app that works right. I tried out a bunch of them, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey.
First off, I gave eBoox a shot. A buddy of mine recommended it, said it’s the bee’s knees. I installed it, and I gotta say, the syncing feature is pretty neat. All my books and where I left off reading, it all syncs up across my devices. Plus, it backs up everything to my cloud drive, which is a lifesaver. I did notice they’re still working on letting you import books directly from cloud storage. They say it’s coming soon, so that’s something to look forward to.
Then there was Aquile Reader. The layout options are kinda cool, especially the two-column setup, it feels like you’re reading an actual book. It does the whole highlighting and bookmarking thing too, which is useful for me ’cause I like to keep track of stuff. And get this, it can even read the books out loud! I mean, who doesn’t want to be read to sometimes?
I also stumbled upon this app called Unlimited Books. It is free, and the library is massive. I just downloaded it and started reading with no issue. So I think it is a good choice for somebody.
Of course, I had to try out Apple Books, since it comes with the whole Apple ecosystem. It’s alright, does the job, and I guess if you’re already deep into Apple stuff, it makes sense to use it. I use it now and then. Mostly when I’m looking for audiobooks because it has a pretty good selection.
After fiddling with all these apps, I realized it all comes down to what you need. Like, if you want something that just works with all your Apple gadgets, Apple Books is probably fine. But if you’re like me and you want more control, or you use different devices, eBoox or Aquile Reader might be more up your alley.
- eBoox – Good for syncing across devices and cloud backup.
- Aquile Reader – Nice layout, notes, and text-to-speech.
- Unlimited Books – Free books, just download and read.
- Apple Books – Integrated with Apple devices, good for audiobooks.
I started out just wanting to read my ePubs without a hassle, and I ended up testing all these different readers. It’s been interesting, to say the least. Now I just keep a couple of these apps on my devices, depending on what I’m reading and where. So yeah, that’s my little adventure in finding the best ePub reader for iOS. Hope this helps someone out there!
