Hey everyone, so today I got it in my head that I wanted to mess around with the sounds on my Windows 11 machine. You know, change things up a bit, maybe add a touch of nostalgia. So, I started looking into how to get those old Windows sounds back.
First off, I searched around for “Windows sound packs.” Found out that it’s a whole thing, people collect these sounds, like a hobby or something. I stumbled upon some forum posts talking about a project by some guy named Ehpramto17, which seemed to have a bunch of these old sounds. Sounds interesting, right?
So, I decided to dig deeper. I learned that you need to download a sound pack first. It has the sound files for different versions of Windows. You know, like the startup sound from Windows 95 or the error sound from Windows XP – that kind of thing.
Next, I found some websites that offer these sound packs. There are a few out there. I also saw something about a program called “SoundPackager,” but I didn’t look into that one too much.
After a bit of searching, I downloaded a pack that said it was specifically for Windows 11. It had about 100 different sounds in it. Pretty cool, huh?
The next part was actually applying the sounds. So, I went into the sound settings in Windows. You can just type “Sound settings” in the search bar, super easy. There, you can change your output and input devices, like your speakers or microphone, but that’s not what I was after.
I clicked on the “Sounds” tab, and there it was – a box to “Play Windows startup sound”. I checked that. Then, under the list of program events, I found “Windows Logon” and browsed to the folder where I had extracted the sound pack. I picked the Windows 7 startup sound because, why not?
I clicked “Test” to make sure it worked, and it did! I hit “Apply” and restarted my computer. Now, every time I log in, I get that classic Windows 7 sound. It’s the little things, you know?
It’s pretty straightforward, actually. Just download a sound pack, find the sound you want in the settings, and apply it. It’s a fun little way to customize your computer and make it feel a bit more personalized.
- Search for “Windows sound packs” and find sound collections.
- Download a sound pack that interests you.
- Go to Windows Sound Settings by searching for it in the search bar.
- Click on the “Sounds” tab.
- Check the “Play Windows startup sound” box.
- Browse and select the desired sound from your downloaded pack under the corresponding program event (e.g., “Windows Logon”).
- Test the sound and click “Apply.”
- Restart your computer to enjoy your new sound scheme.
So, yeah, that’s how my little adventure with Windows sounds went today. If you’re looking to change things up a bit, give it a try! It is a fun way to change your computer a little bit.
