So, I decided to get my hands dirty with my home security system, specifically figuring out the IP and MAC address for my IQ panel. It’s one of those things that seems daunting at first, but once you get into it, it’s not that bad. I’ve got a Qolsys IQ Panel 2, and I wanted to connect it to my home automation system. I did a little bit of digging online, and it looked like it was doable.
First off, I had to get into the settings of the IQ Panel itself. I swiped down from the clock display at the top of the screen and hit “Settings.” Then, I tapped on “Advanced Settings.” It asked me for a code, which I already know. I typed in the code, and I was in. I tried to search for the IP address information but found nothing.
Next, I figured I’d check my router since it’s the one giving out the IP addresses. I typed my router’s IP address into my browser. Usually, it’s something like 192.168.0.1. I logged in, and looked around for the connected devices. Bingo! I found my IQ Panel listed there with its IP address. From there, I could also see the MAC address, which is always handy to have. The MAC address of the IQ Panel will begin with 00:D0:69.
I also found some info online about pairing an IQ2 panel with another IQ2 panel. It mentioned something about synchronizing over the network and getting the IP address from the IQ2. But that wasn’t my main goal, so I skipped that part for now. Although I got some information about how to pair the IQ Panel with another IQ panel, I do not need it at this time.
Then, I remembered seeing something about Control4 and manually adding the IQ Panel’s IP address. But I’m not using Control4, so that wasn’t relevant to me either. I also checked out the QOLSYS IQ Panel user manual, hoping for some guidance. It had a lot of information, but I mainly focused on the network setup parts.
Another thing I tried was connecting the IQ Panel to my Wi-Fi network. I went back to the settings, typed in my code again, and found the Wi-Fi settings. I selected my network, entered the password, and it connected without any issues. After connecting to the internet, I still did not find any information about the IP address and MAC address on the IQ Panel.
- Here’s a quick rundown of what I did:
- Accessed the Advanced Settings on my IQ Panel.
- Logged into my router to find the IQ Panel’s IP and MAC address.
- Connected the IQ Panel to my Wi-Fi network.
In the end, I was able to get all the information I needed. It took a bit of trial and error, but I got there. I have successfully obtained the IP and MAC addresses of the IQ Panel from the router, and connected the IQ Panel to the internet. Now, my IQ Panel is all set up and ready to be integrated into my home automation system. It’s pretty satisfying to figure this stuff out on your own, you know? Plus, it’s always good to know your way around your home tech.
