Okay, here is my sharing about how to install Fastfetch on Debian 12, just like a real person’s blog post:
Yesterday, I messed around with my Debian 12 system and tried to install Fastfetch. It was not as smooth as I thought, so I am gonna share my experience here.
First, I checked some tutorials online. It seems like I need to have some basic stuff ready before the installation. They call it “Prerequisites”. Whatever, I just made sure my Debian 12 was up to date. I used the update and upgrade commands, pretty basic stuff. Then, I got this installer script, which they say supports many Linux distributions. The list is long, like Ubuntu, Debian, Arch Linux, and so on. My Debian 12 is on the list, so I felt lucky.
Then I followed the steps from some random blog. I had to choose a desktop environment. The tutorial guy used Cinnamon, so I used Cinnamon, too. Easy peasy. I also installed this GRUB thing, which is supposed to be a bootloader. After that, I just rebooted the system.
Honestly, the installation process was not that hard, mostly just following instructions. I used some command-line stuff, but it’s manageable. I can even play around with Fastfetch’s settings now. But during the process, I found that many tutorials out there are not clear enough, so I decided to write down my own experience to help others who might have the same problem.
So, here’s how I did it:
- Update the system: This is the first thing to do, always. Make sure everything is up to date.
- Get the installer script: I just copied the script from their official site. You should be able to find it easily.
- Install the desktop environment: I picked Cinnamon. You can choose others if you want.
- Install the GRUB bootloader: This part is a bit tricky, but just follow the instructions.
- Reboot: After everything is done, reboot your system.
And boom, it’s done! Now I have Fastfetch running on my Debian 12. Not gonna lie, it feels good to have figured this out. I hope my sharing can be helpful for some of you guys.
