Oh, you know what? They gone and done it, Internet Explorer is no more. Yep, on June 15, 2022, Microsoft said they ain’t gonna support it no more. That old browser we all used back in the day, well, it’s retired now. It was around for 27 years, can you believe that? But now, they want folks to switch over to Microsoft Edge, ’cause they say it’s got somethin’ called IE mode. They say it’ll work like the old Internet Explorer for those who still need it. It’s gonna be supported till 2029, they reckon.
I still remember back in 1995 when Internet Explorer first came out. We didn’t have no fancy browsers back then. It was simple, but we used it for everything. Folks didn’t know much about the internet back then, but if you wanted to get online, you were probably using Internet Explorer. Oh, it was based on something called Spyglass Mosaic. Microsoft licensed it from Spyglass Inc. Now, I don’t know much about all that technical mumbo-jumbo, but that’s how it started, I suppose.
Through the years, folks started usin’ other browsers like Chrome and Firefox. Internet Explorer started to feel kinda slow, you know? It just didn’t keep up. But for a long time, it was the default browser. You didn’t really have a choice, it was just there when you got a computer.
By the time Microsoft decided to stop supportin’ it, not many folks were usin’ it anyway. Most people had already moved on to them newer browsers. Still, it feels kinda sad, don’t it? It’s like sayin’ goodbye to an old friend. We all have memories with Internet Explorer. Some of ’em are good, some of ’em, well, not so good. Who can forget them times when it would freeze or take forever to load a page?
But now, Microsoft says if you still need Internet Explorer, you gotta use Microsoft Edge with that IE mode. It’s not exactly the same, but it’s somethin’, I guess. They’re tryin’ to keep up with the times, and I get that. But still, for some of us old folks, it’s kinda hard to let go of somethin’ we used for so many years. Internet Explorer was there when the internet was new to us, and now it’s gone. Time sure flies, huh?
On social media, I seen people sayin’ their goodbyes to the ol’ browser. They’re jokin’ around, sayin’ things like, “Rest in peace, Internet Explorer.” Some folks are even sharin’ old pictures of the browser, like a little tribute. It’s funny how a browser can stir up memories like that. But I guess, after 27 years, it’s bound to have some fans, even if most folks had stopped usin’ it years ago.
So, that’s it. The chapter’s closed on Internet Explorer. It had a good run, didn’t it? From bein’ the main way folks accessed the internet, to slowly fadin’ away as new technology came along. But we’ll always remember it, especially us older folks who’ve been around since the early days of the web. Rest in peace, Internet Explorer.
