Alright, so I decided to give these “Cherry MX Speed Silver” switches a try on my Mac keyboard. I’ve been hearing a lot about how they are good for gaming, and while I’m not the biggest gamer, I do spend a lot of time typing, and who doesn’t like a smooth typing experience?
First off, let me tell you, finding the right switches was a bit of a hunt. There are so many types out there – red, brown, blue, you name it. But I kept seeing “linear” and “tactile” thrown around. From what I gathered, linear switches, like these silver ones, are supposed to be quicker and quieter. Sounded good to me.
Then there was the whole process of actually switching them out. I had to get myself a switch puller. It was a bit fiddly at first, but once you get the hang of it, pulling the old switches out is kind of satisfying, not gonna lie.
Putting the new silver switches in was pretty straightforward. They just kind of clicked into place. I did have to take my keycaps off. I did a few at a time to get a feel for it, and then, I did them all. I tried to find the weight, and it’s around 50 to 70 grams.
My Feelings
- Smooth Operator: These silver switches really are smooth. There’s no bump or click when you press down, just a straight, easy motion.
- Quiet Type: I was surprised by how quiet these switches are. Definitely a plus if you’re working late at night or in a shared space.
- Gaming: Okay, I did try a few games just to see, and yeah, these switches do feel pretty responsive. I don’t know about “speed” but it’s really fast.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with the Cherry MX Speed Silver switches. They’ve definitely made my typing experience more enjoyable. If you’re thinking about trying new switches, I’d say these are worth a shot, especially if you’re into that smooth, quiet vibe.
And I did this on my Mac and they worked fine, so don’t worry about that. It was a fun little project and I’m happy with the outcome. That’s all.
