Alright, so I had this little problem the other day with my Minecraft icon on Windows 11. It just vanished! Poof! Gone! I was freaking out a little, not gonna lie. I mean, how am I supposed to get my block-building fix without that little green icon staring back at me? It wasn’t on the desktop, it’s weird.
So I did what any reasonable person would do – I went full-on detective mode. I figured, let’s start with the basics. First, I checked the taskbar and the Start menu. Guess what? The icon was chillin’ there, all normal-like. Weird, right? So it’s not like the game itself was gone, just the desktop shortcut went on vacation or something.
Then, I remembered reading somewhere about display scaling. I mean, it’s a long shot, but I’m desperate here. So, I dove into the display settings, played around with the scaling a bit, but nope, still no icon. Strike two!
Okay, time to get a bit more technical. I thought, maybe I could just recreate the shortcut and, you know, give it a new icon. I tracked down the Minecraft Launcher in the “Installed Apps” section of the settings. Found it, clicked on those three little dots, and went into “Advanced options.”
There were two options there: “Repair” and “Reset.” I clicked “Repair” first, hoping that would magically bring my icon back. Waited a few seconds… nothing. Alright, let’s go nuclear. I hit “Reset.” Still nothing. Man, this was getting frustrating! I did all of the things it told me to do, but it just didn’t work.
I even opened up the Task Manager, went to the “Processes” tab, hoping to find something there. I didn’t really know what I was looking for, but I was just trying everything at this point. So, at this point, I was starting to lose hope. I figured I was doomed to a life without a Minecraft desktop icon.
Then, I had a crazy thought, maybe I can just add one manually, I just needed to find this .ico file first. After trying a bunch of things, I finally decided to change the icon through the shortcut properties, turns out it’s super easy! I just right-clicked on the shortcut on my taskbar, right-clicked again on the “Minecraft Launcher”, then clicked properties and there it was, a button that said “Change Icon…”
I clicked it, and finally found the icon file, selected it, clicked “OK,” and boom! There it was, my beautiful Minecraft icon, back on my desktop where it belonged. I have no idea why it disappeared in the first place, but hey, at least I got it back.
So, if any of you guys run into this issue, don’t panic. Just try manually changing the icon. Hope this little adventure of mine helps someone out there!
