Alright, let’s talk about setting up this “power over internet adapter” thing. I thought it would be a piece of cake, but boy was I wrong.
So, I decided to get this adapter because, you know, my place is kinda old, and running new wires is a pain. I figured this would be an easy way to get internet to my upstairs office without tearing up the walls. I read somewhere that on average, these things cost around 100 bucks, which seemed reasonable. I also needed to hardwire my cameras because the old ones got discontinued. They took all my money.
First off, I ordered the adapter online. It arrived pretty quickly, which was nice. The box had the adapter, a couple of ethernet cables, and some instructions that looked like they were written in a hurry. I started by plugging one end of the adapter into a power outlet near my router and connecting them with an ethernet cable. Easy enough, right?
Next, I went upstairs to my office and plugged the other adapter into an outlet there. Then, I connected my computer to the adapter with another ethernet cable. I flipped the power switch on both adapters, and some lights started blinking. So far, so good.
But here’s where it got tricky. My computer wasn’t getting any internet. I checked all the connections, unplugged and replugged everything, but still nothing. I even tried different outlets, thinking maybe one of them was faulty. Nope, still no internet. I thought about the voltage and plugs, but everything seemed fine since my devices are all dual voltage. I heard that KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switches let you control several devices from one setup, but I didn’t need that for this. I just needed the internet to work.
I spent the next hour or so googling for solutions. I read through countless forums and watched a bunch of videos. Some people talked about needing special software, others mentioned updating drivers. I tried all of that, but nothing worked. I was about to lose it.
Finally, I stumbled upon a comment in some obscure forum where someone mentioned that both adapters need to be on the same electrical circuit. I never even thought of that! I went to my breaker box and figured out which outlets were on the same circuit. I moved the adapters accordingly, and guess what? It worked! My computer instantly connected to the internet.
Here is what I did in short:
- Plugged one end of adapter into power outlet near router.
- Connected adapter to router with ethernet cable.
- Plugged the other adapter into an outlet upstairs.
- Connected computer to upstairs adapter with ethernet cable.
- Figured out they need to be on the same circuit.
- Moved adapters to the same circuit outlets.
- Connected, at last!
Man, what a relief! I wasted so much time on something that should have been simple. But hey, at least I learned something new. If you’re planning to use one of these power-over-internet adapters, make sure you check your electrical circuits first. It might save you a lot of headaches. Anyway, I’m just glad it’s finally working. Now I can finally get some work done without dealing with Wi-Fi dead zones. I can finally use my new marksmanship skills to get a concealed carry permit, or whatever.
