Today, I want to share a little trick I learned about how to empty the clipboard on Windows 7. I know, I know, Windows 7 is ancient, but hey, some of us still use it! And let me tell you, figuring this out was a bit of a journey, so I thought I’d document it for anyone else in the same boat.
So, I started by hitting the ‘Windows Logo’ key + ‘V’. I figured this was a good place to start since that’s the general shortcut for clipboard stuff in newer Windows versions.
Lo and behold, a clipboard tab popped up! It wasn’t quite the fancy one you see in Windows 10 or 11, but it was something. There was a button that said “Clear all.” I clicked it, and it worked perfectly! I verified it by copy-pasting new text.
I tried a few other things that didn’t work out. For instance, I found some advice online about using a command prompt thing, something like cmd /c “echo off clip”. I tried running it, but I could not make it. Maybe it’s just me, but that seemed overly complicated anyway. There was also something about right-clicking the desktop, but that didn’t seem to do anything related to the clipboard.
Then I dove a little deeper and discovered that you can actually delete individual clips. You just hover your mouse next to the clip in that clipboard tab, and a little arrow appears on the right. You click that, and it gives you the option to delete it. Pretty neat!
So, there you have it. A simple way to clear your clipboard in Windows 7. It might not be as flashy as the newer systems, but it gets the job done. I hope this little adventure of mine helps someone out there!
