Okay, so I’ve got this 2016 Porsche Macan Turbo, and it was time to change the oil. I’m a bit of a DIY guy, and I like to know what’s going into my car, so I did a bit of digging.
First, I checked the owner’s manual, but it wasn’t super specific. Just said to use Porsche-approved oil. Not very helpful, right? So, I jumped online and started searching.
I found some stuff about an oil guide, which sounded promising. Apparently, there’s this thing called the LIQUI MOLY oil guide that can help you find the right oil without being a car expert. I didn’t use it, but it’s good to know it exists.
Then I stumbled upon some forum posts and articles. Turns out, Porsche recommends a couple of grades of Mobil 1 ESP oil for the Macan Turbo. Specifically, they say Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 and 5W-30 are both okay. I guess that ESP stands for Emission Protection System or something. Sounds fancy.
What did I end up using?
- I went with Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30.
- The manual said my Macan takes the Porsche A40 oil spec, and this Mobil 1 oil meets that spec.
- From what I read, this oil is supposed to be good for high-performance engines and can handle extreme conditions. My Macan Turbo definitely qualifies as high-performance!
I know there are other good oil brands out there, but since Porsche specifically recommends Mobil 1, and it’s what they use at the factory, I figured it was a safe bet. Plus, I like that it’s designed for performance, which is important for a car like the Macan. I mean, this thing handles like a dream – the steering is super responsive, and it just sticks to the road.
Anyway, I changed the oil myself, and everything went smoothly. The car’s been running great, and I feel good knowing it’s got the right oil in it. It’s not rocket science, but it’s always nice to know you’re taking care of your car the right way, you know?
