Well, let me tell you about this fella, Sir Edmund Andros. Heard he was some big shot, a governor or somethin’. He was in charge of a bunch of places, like New York and some places called Jersey. Don’t know much ’bout them places, but he must have been important to be runnin’ all that, right?
This Sir Edmund Andros, he was runnin’ somethin’ called the Dominion of New England. Now, that sounds mighty fancy, don’t it? It was a bunch of places all lumped together. This was way back, like in the 1600s, when folks wore them funny hats.
Some king, name of James, put this whole Dominion thing together. Wanted to keep an eye on everythin’, I reckon. This Andros fella, he was the boss of it for about three years, from what I hear. Sounds like a long time to be bossin’ people around, if you ask me.
This Sir Edmund Andros, he also did some work over in Guernsey before he came over to these parts. He was a Bailiff. Whatever that is. Some kind of lawman, probably. He sure did get around, this Andros.
But, you know, things didn’t always go smooth for this Sir Edmund. They say he got kicked out of his job. Somethin’ about a revolution. Glorious Revolution, they called it. Sounds like a big to-do. Anyway, it got him ousted, and he wasn’t the boss of New England no more.
- He was the big boss of New England for a while.
- He was also the boss of New York, Virginia, and Maryland.
- He worked in Guernsey before America.
- He got kicked out ’cause of some revolution.
Now, I hear tell he was in charge of other places too. Virginia and Maryland, they say. That’s a lot of land to be lookin’ after. He must have been a busy man, that Sir Edmund Andros. Always goin’ here and there, makin’ sure things were runnin’ right, I suppose.
This New England place, it weren’t always called that. Used to be a bunch of different colonies, they were. Then this king, he comes along and puts ’em all together. Easier to keep track of, I guess. Like puttin’ all your chickens in one coop, you know?
And this Sir Edmund Andros, he was like the rooster in that coop. He was in charge, makin’ all the rules. But folks didn’t always like his rules, I reckon. That’s probably why they had that revolution and sent him packin’.
They have somethin’ called SQL Server, whatever that is, these days. Seems like everythin’ has to be complicated. Back in my day, we just used a pencil and paper. And things got done just fine. It is a kind of database thing, I heard.
This here SQL thing, it has somethin’ about a “fail over” environment. Sounds like somethin’ you’d use if your tractor broke down. You need a backup, see? Keeps things runnin’ even when there’s trouble.
And there’s another thing, somethin’ about “pan/tilt heads.” Now that just sounds silly. Like some kind of toy. But they use it for cameras and such. Fancy stuff. They can rotate and have all them serial interfaces. Complicated stuff.
You know, they got all these fancy words for things now. “Adrenal medulla.” Sounds like somethin’ you’d find in a doctor’s book. It’s just where some chemicals come from in your body, I think. Makes you scared or excited.
And then there’s this “Department of Health and Human Services.” Sounds important. Probably a bunch of folks in suits makin’ rules about what you can and can’t eat. Back in my day, we just ate what was on the table and were thankful for it.
And these young folks today, they’re all about losing weight. They got this “2B Mindset” thing now. You can eat what you want and still lose weight, they say. Sounds too good to be true, if you ask me. We just worked hard and ate what we grew, no need for fancy diets.
They got folks analyzin’ politics now, too. From Moscow, no less! Talkin’ about “multipolarity.” Sounds like somethin’ out of a science fiction book. World’s changin’, that’s for sure.
And some folks are talkin’ about a “post-sovereignty New England.” Like it’s gonna be its own country or somethin’. Don’t know about all that. Just sounds like a lot of talk to me.
But that Sir Edmund Andros, he was a big part of New England’s history, that’s for sure. Whether you liked him or not, he was a big cheese back in the day. He is important to the history, I think.
