Okay, so, I gotta tell you about this little adventure I had today with my computer. I was messing around with my settings, as one does, and I decided it was time to turn off this thing called UPnP on my Windows 11 machine. Now, I’m no tech wizard, but I do like to keep things running smooth and secure, you know?
So, I started poking around, trying to find where this UPnP setting was hiding. First, I hit up the good old Start Menu. I typed in “Services” because I figured it had something to do with, well, services running on my PC. I opened up the Services app, and there was this huge list of stuff. I scrolled and scrolled until I found something called “UPnP Device Host.” That sounded like the culprit!
I double-clicked on that bad boy, and a little window popped up with some options. There was this dropdown menu for “Startup type.” It was set to “Manual” by default. I clicked on that dropdown and saw an option that said “Disabled.” Bingo! I selected “Disabled” and clicked “Apply,” then “OK.” I thought I was done, but not yet.
Next, I remembered something about “Network Discovery” also being related to UPnP. So, I went back to the Start Menu and searched for “Network and Sharing Center.” In there, I clicked on “Change advanced sharing settings.” There it was, “Network discovery” with an option to turn it off. I clicked that little radio button to turn it off and hit “Save changes.”
- Opened the Start Menu.
- Searched for and opened the Services app.
- Found “UPnP Device Host” and double-clicked it.
- Changed “Startup type” to “Disabled.”
- Clicked “Apply” and “OK.”
- Went to “Network and Sharing Center.”
- Clicked “Change advanced sharing settings.”
- Turned off “Network discovery” and saved changes.
After all that, I restarted my computer, just to be sure everything took effect. And guess what? It worked! UPnP was finally disabled. It wasn’t too difficult, but it did take a little bit of digging around. I feel a bit better now, knowing that my network is a little more secure. Plus, I learned a bit more about how Windows works, which is always a good thing, am I right?
So yeah, that’s my little story about disabling UPnP on Windows 11. It might not be the most exciting tale, but hey, it’s the little victories that count! And maybe this will help someone else out there who’s trying to do the same thing. It’s good to share these things. That’s all I know! Now I can watch my favorite shows!
